Many marathon runners and walkers face postponements or cancellations due to COVID-19 and are seeking new ways to stay active. Prevention Magazine’s Virtual Walk is here to help. That’s right, it’s virtual! As with any 5K, the training, rush of endorphins, and the official completion of your run or walk remain the same.
We’re glad you’re here, whether you’re a newbie to running, a seasoned marathoner, or a seasoned racer looking for ways you can get more steps in. Participants will also be eligible to win 10 Fitbit Inspire 2’s as part of Fitbit’s sponsorship. Continue reading to learn all the details.
What is the best way to do it?
It’s all up to you. Join Prevention and Fitbit May 1 for the ultimate 5K. You can choose your course, start time, and running or walking partners. The best part? It’s free!
You can’t make it on May 1. No worries. No worries. You can still sign-up here and order a Tshirt and bib number. Then, show off your new gear while you train to join the fun.
Why should I walk?
Let’s now address the most important question: Why is it important? There are many reasons why walking is good for you. Studies show that it improves your mood and brain function. It has been shown that putting a little more energy into your day can help you live a happier life. A daily walk for at least 30 minutes can help you maintain a healthy weight. It can also strengthen bones and muscles, improve balance, coordination, and help with managing high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
It’s more important than ever to keep moving forward and work together towards our goals. If you have been paying attention, then you will know that Fitbit believes in 10,000 steps per day. This is a good goal. For most people, 10,000 steps equals five miles per day. You’ll be on your way to achieving that dream goal if you run or walk 5K. Those aren’t necessarily the only steps you take on a given day.
